AUTOMOTIVE WHEEL BALANCING INTRODUCTION

An inbalanced wheel causes additional dynamic loads on the vehicle’s bearing assemblies and suspension parts, which leads to their accelerated wear and a decrease in their service life. Elimination of imbalance is one of the most requested services in a modern tire shop.
Modern methods of eliminating dynamic imbalance include indirect measurement, using built-in sensors for static and couple imbalance measurments, and correction of these imbalances by attaching corrective weights, taking into account their mass and placement.
An important part of the aftermarket automotive wheel balancing service is the automation of measuring and inputting of wheel parameters for fast and accurate calculation and placement of the correcting weight.

Software

AUTOMATION

Complex automation of processes allows for a significant speed up of the procedure of measuring and eliminating wheel imbalance.
Accurate main wheel parameters are input by an automatic electronic distance and diameter gauge (BM3 and BM4) or a contactless machine-vision system measuring of the rim profile formed with a laser line (BM7).
All machines have a built-in ultrasonic sensor for determining the width of a steel rim. The sensor installed on the protective hood is controlled by the balancer’s software and takes all readings automatically during the wheel balancing procedure.
Electromagnetic brake, automatic wheel positioning according to correction weight arrangement, followed by the tested wheel being locked in position for weight placement, and laser (dot or line) weight positioning, which minimizes weight placement time.

RUNOUT MEASUREMENT

The use of reliable methods for rim runout determining allows a high degree of accuracy in finding the possible sources of vibration caused by the rim. All machines of the IPro BM line-up are implemented to measure the runout of the wheel rim mechanically, and the BM7 model, in addition to that, is capable of carrying out a contactless measurement at the same time as an imbalance check.
As a result of the system test, the balancer determines the possible on-rim hazards for subsequent wheel use and evaluates whether rim replacement or repair is necessary.

BALANCING PROGRAMS

Automatic choice of balancing program, type, and correction weight location is carried out by the software when the wheel parameters are entered, and the placement of the correction weight is specified by an operator, or such placement is calculated during automatic profile scanning. The operator has the ability to manually change the type and place of the corrective weight attachment.
TechnoVector IPro BM balancers work with all types of tape and clip-on weights for both aluminum and steel rims. The use of up-to-date balancing algorithms for calculating the weight value and its attachment position minimizes the correction mass on the wheel and reduces the time for its placement.
